Why your suburb matters (and why it doesn't change the price)
We get asked one question more than any other: "Do you pay less because I'm out in Waiuku?" No. A buyer who charges more, or pays less, because of where you live is pricing your postcode instead of your car. We price on make, model, year, condition and completeness, plus current scrap metal prices. The same 2008 Mazda Demio earns the same in Ōtara as it does in Howick.
So why write a suburb-by-suburb guide at all? Because where you live shapes what you're selling and how it gets collected:
- The vehicle mix changes. Franklin is ute and 4WD country. The East Auckland bays have more European and late-model cars. Industrial Wiri and East Tāmaki are full of vans and trucks. - The logistics change. Steep driveways in Cockle Bay, basement carparks in Manukau Central, paddocks in Karaka, and one road in and out of Maraetai all affect how we schedule and which truck we send.
- The council changes. Most of South Auckland is Auckland Council, but Pōkeno and Tuakau are Waikato District. That matters if you're dealing with an abandoned car on the street.

Māngere-Ōtāhuhu
Airport fringe, family streets and some of Auckland's busiest industrial land
This is where a lot of Auckland's working vehicles live: rental fleets around the airport, trade vans in Favona and Ōtāhuhu, and the family cars and older Japanese imports that fill driveways in Māngere. Parts demand is constant, so even a tired HiAce or a 15-year-old Corolla is worth more here than people expect.

Abandoned cars: who to call in each council area
Not every unwanted car belongs to the person who wants it gone. Here's who deals with what across South Auckland:

A legitimate car buyer can't simply tow a car off a public street. The owner, or someone with proof they're entitled to sell it, has to agree to the sale. Five pickup tips that work in every suburb

No. We price the vehicle, not the postcode. A 2010 Hilux is worth the same in Pukekohe as in Papatoetoe, and pickup is free in all 61 suburbs. What does differ by area is the typical vehicle mix, which is why some suburbs see higher average offers.
Which South Auckland areas get the highest cash offers?
Areas with lots of utes, 4WDs and late-model or European vehicles, such as Papakura, Franklin and the Howick coastal bays, tend to see higher average offers. That is because of the vehicles, not the location. A well-kept Corolla in Otara earns exactly the same as one in Bucklands Beach.
Is car removal really free in rural areas like Waiuku, Clevedon and Tuakau?
Yes. Free removal covers every suburb in this guide, including rural Franklin, the Pōhutukawa Coast and North Waikato towns like Pōkeno and Tuakau. There is no distance surcharge and no fee for winching a car out of a paddock or long driveway.
Who do I call about an abandoned car on my street in South Auckland?
For a vehicle abandoned on a public road or reserve inside Auckland, contact Auckland Council. In Pōkeno and Tuakau, contact Waikato District Council. If you think the car is stolen, contact NZ Police. A car buyer cannot legally take a car off a public road unless the owner sells it.
Can you collect from a business, depot or industrial site?
