What The Law Says

• You can sell any vehicle, registered or not, WoF current or not
• You can transfer ownership without current rego
• You cannot drive an unregistered or unwarranted vehicle
• The new owner must tow or trailer it

The NZTA Notice of Disposal

When you sell to a wrecker, the legal step is the notice of disposal. The moment we submit it: vehicle removed from your name; no future liability for infringements or rego; you can claim rego refund (if applicable). We complete this on the spot. You just show ID.

Will I Get Less Cash?
